These are held on the third Sunday of each month from September to July at 2.00pm. Guest speakers are invited to visit and give illustrated talks on all aspects of orchid growing. Often the speakers are specialist amateur growers who pass on some of their expertise. Sometimes the speakers are from nurseries and they bring plants for sale. At other times, the speakers may be concerned with orchids in the wild. One of the highlights of the year is the plant auction held at the December meeting when members can dispose of surplus plants, and of course buy new plants to replace them.
The Display Tables (one for novices and one for accomplished growers) are an important part of these meetings. Members are encouraged to bring any flowering plants they have for others to appreciate. EMOS has a number of qualified BOC judges who will give constructive criticism of the plants displayed.
Each year the members try to make at least one visit to a place of interest in connection with orchids, for example, the RHS spring show in London, a nursery or Botanical Garden.
The Society has an extensive library of books, magazines, CD’s etc. These are displayed at the monthly meetings and may be borrowed by members.
