Formed in 1976, the East Midlands Orchid Society is a member of the British Orchid Council (BOC) and we became affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in January 1996.

Why choose East Midlands Orchid Society?

Our monthly meetings are a great opportunity to enjoy the company of like-minded people, hobbyists and orchid growers. This friendly society ensures a warm welcome (from exchanging growing experiences and advice to a chat with friends) whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. Many of our members have been with us from the early days.

Everyone is welcome from the novice through to the professional - whether you have one orchid or hundreds!

  • We have over 100 members.
  • Friendly and informal monthly meetings.
  • A comprehensive monthly newsletter.
  • A full programme of speakers providing informative experience.
  • An extensive library of orchid books (free to borrow).
  • We promote the cultivation and preservation of orchids.
  • A number of our members are fully qualified British Orchid Council judges.
  • Also a number of members have National Collections of Orchids under the National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens (NCCPG).

Our society's emblem is represented by the Paphiopedilum discovered by M. Alexandre Reginier and introduced into European cultivation in 1885. The species is native to Thailand and Cambodia and can be grown intermediate to warm producing flowers in spring/summer.
